Your donation to the Social & Emotional Learning Wishlist Item will support all Bell School students (K through 8th) by funding the following three areas that are critical to developing social and emotional skills in our students.

First, your donation will go to the purchase and maintenance of Bell School's Social & Emotional Learning curriculum.  For all students, K through 8th grade, Bell School uses a research-based curriculum called Second Step created by The Committee for Children.  It is very important to address the social and emotional learning needs of students in addition to their academic needs -- especially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic impacts.  Second Step's sequence addresses the following topics: listening skills, self-awareness and advocacy, emotional management, empathy, and problem solving.  For Bell School's middle school students, additional SEL units include bullying prevention, communication, and substance abuse prevention.  For more information about Bell School's SEL curriculum from Second Step, please visit www.cfchildren.org.

Second, your donation will allow Bell School to provide resources for our teachers and families related to Responsive Classroom.  The Responsive Classroom approach has been successfully used by Kindergarten through 8th grade teachers in schools around the country for over 30 years to create learning environments where children thrive academically, socially and emotionally. It emphasizes teaching children to take care of themselves, each other, and the school environment so that everyone can learn at his/her/their best. Strategies implemented in Responsive Classroom include Morning Meetings, Rules & Logical Consequences, Guided Discovery, Academic Choice, Classroom Organization, and Working Together with Parents.

Last, but certainly not least, your donation will provide the financial support for Bell School's student counseling services and our two guidance counselors, Ms. Moran and Ms. DuBose. In fact, without your support, Bell School may not be able to provide two school counslers to help address Bell students' critical social and emotional needs. For more information about Bell School's counseling services please visit Ms. Moran's webpage.
