Author To Speak About Perkasie History Book In Borough For First Time
"Perkasie Hometown Calendar Launch" To Benefit Charity
For the first time, local historian R. Scott Bomboy will be speaking publicly in Perkasie Borough about his book Perkasie: An American Hometown at a special fundraising event this October.
Perkasie: An American Hometown (1871-1945) debuted in March 2021, and the book has developed a steady regional following. Event in-person attendees will get a special new 2023 calendar based on the An American Hometown book.
The event is co-sponsored by Rams Pint House (aka the former Thompson Hardware store) on Chestnut Street in Perkasie. All event proceeds benefit the Pennridge Community Relief Fund.
“I am excited to get a chance to talk about Perkasie’s history based on just the thirteen pictures in the calendar. Each one has an inspirational story, from 1887 through 1929,” said Bomboy, who curated the digitally remastered photos. Each photo links to a blog post via a QR code that tells an original story not in the An American Hometown book.
Among the calendar images are extremely rare photos of the Blizzard of 1888, the Perkasie train, and an alternative version of the iconic 1917 photo of Perkasie’s young men marching off to World War I. Featured are the photographs of Abraham Housekeeper, Daniel Ziegler, and Charles Wimmer, and the work of architects Milton Bean, Oscar Martin, and the Wilson Brothers.
