Building a future of abundance.

Ke ewe hana o ka ‘aina. The lineage born of the land.

I keia wa, in our current times, we must continue to hana nut together to restore and regenerate the lineage of mahi‘ai on this land!

The MA‘O ‘Ohana approaches this spring, firmly rooted and in the midst of a largescale transformation of Wai‘anae Moku youth, of the ‘aina at Lualualei Valley, and of Hawai‘iʻs food system. We are serving over 70 young leaders this year, all in various stages of obtaining their AA degrees at Leeward Community College or their BA degrees at UH West Oahu, all working together to develop skills on-farm, to improve their own health and well-being, and to provide our larger community with over 5,400 lbs of fresh organic produce EACH WEEK!  In February, our youth harvested the first leafy greens from new lands we are stewarding at Palikea, on the western edge of Lualualei Valley.  Though historically used for growing row-crops, this parcel was fallow for many decades as it went through owners who previously proposed it be used for a golf course and a light industrial park.

Over the next 5-10 years, we will work with hundreds of Wai'anae Moku youth to expand the fields on this land, to plant thousands of ulu, niu and other food producing trees, and to reforest the mauka areas of the parcel, so that it embodies MĀ‘ONA - abundance and plenty.  In this process, our youth will also be transformed - into leaders, college graduates, healthy individuals, and the next generation of mahi‘ai.
