Hello friends,
Ever since my days of being in the US Air Force, I knew I wanted to give back to the community that gave so much to me as a young man. I just did not know how, but then in 2015, I help start Merivis in Texas. Merivis bridges the gap for military veterans and spouses who want to transition to a growing technology job market and specifically at this point Salesforce careers. Merivis is making a real difference in the lives of many veterans as the military made a difference in my life many years ago. We are a 501c3 and up until 2 months ago was an all-volunteer board who also did most of the work over the last 3 years. However, we are growing and need to fund raise to serve more veterans and military spouses beyond Texas. We want to scale next year and could use your help.
What Exactly Do We do?
In three years, we have had nearly 100 vets and spouses in our cohorts that include virtual training, trailhead homework, in-person training, resume assistance, mock interviews, personal branding, 1x1 coaching, networking 101, and social media strategy.
Over the last 3 years, we have had over 100 alumni who have gone on to work at Dell, Amazon, Google, Cap Gemini, Deloitte and many other companies across the country and plan to have many more in 2019.
How Can You help?
First, please donate to my campaign, or any of the vets who are helping us raise funds. Up until now our process was to raise enough funds to sponsor an individual cohort, then plan and execute that class. This has worked when we were offering 2 cohorts a year in Austin - but running 6-8 cohorts next year in multiple cities means we need much more advanced planning to secure trainers, meeting space, etc. It also means we need raise funds now in order to focus on cohort execution next year.
Second, help us get the word out. Vets and spouses shouldn't have to struggle after leaving the military - while these veteran stories now coming out after they are hired is inspiring, I want vets and their spouses to know there are amazing career opportunities waiting for them and not have to worry about how they will support their family.
Third, if you are interested and willing, please volunteer to be a coach for an upcoming cohort. We have had an incredible set of coaches that have stepped up time and time again to work individually with our students during cohorts - but with next year’s volume, we need much more help in the coaching ranks.
Finally, if you work at a vet-friendly organization, please let me know so I can explain sponsorship opportunities and how you can provide career opportunities for our alummi.
Thank you for your time and consideration in helping our #merivets family.
Hector
