About Fruitful Commons

Here at Fruitful Commons, we take on the heavy lifting of administration so that hard-working communities can focus on what they love to do most – growing food, connecting, and making Austin a greener and better place to live. Since 2022 we've awarded over $136k in 34 mini-grants, facilitated the growth of the Festival Beach Food Forest and Grand Meadow Park on public lands, and took on the financial, legal, and tax responsibilities of four community gardens throughout Austin.

This work has never been more critical, or more exciting. With your help, we aim to grow capacity for building a resource network and generating vibrant gatherings for our garden groups. Plans currently in development include:

  • Expansion of our mini-grant program beyond the city limits.
  • Breaking ground on a community kitchen that will bring educational programming, healthy culturally appropriate food, and medicinal plant medicine to low-income seniors.
  • Continuing to expand four food forests and other community-led food-growing projects in Austin and beyond.
  • Developing our green workforce strategies with partnering organizations to offer living wages for BIPOC youth who will gain valuable job skills while they support community garden leaders.

As you consider your annual giving, we hope you will keep Fruitful Commons in mind. Donations to Fruitful Commons expands your impact, enabling many gardens throughout Austin to keep growing without getting bogged down in the mud.  Please join us this year as we expand our resources and continue to strengthen community health and resilience and foster stewardship of our natural commons!
