About Central Texas Seed Savers

Our Mission: Preventing extinction of culturally, ecologically and culinarily important plants. Our lives depend on seeds. Each time we lose a plant variety we lose a piece of ourselves.

Seeds unique to Texas, inclduing 'Hill Country Red' Okra, 'Tatume' Squash, Chile Petin, Texas Madrone and Texas Bluebonnets are not widely available commercially. Our challenging climate and soil conditions require preservation of these special plants. Our local history is linked with these culturally valuable plants. If home growers loose access to these seeds, our favorite Texas plants face extinction. Our libraries, seed swaps, community partnerships and workshops ensure that gardeners can enjoy these special plants for generations to come, adding to local food security and making our local ecosystems more climate resilient.

Your donations make a huge impact for purchasing supplies like envelopes and storage containers. Your donation also builds community by supporting our events like seed swaps and workshops. Our long-term vision includes seed banking, an education center and farmland to protect these rare plants with your generous donations. THANK YOU!
