It's our first fundraiser as a Bell Family! Full disclosure that we will be in Florida for the Frank Family Reunion on the day of the walk - but we can absolutley still raise money for Bell! Baxter's class is really too young to fully appreciate the event itself, but they will certainly reap the benefits of the fundraising efforts.
The Bell Walk has two main campaigns this year: literacy curriculum and South Lot improvements. But there is a lot more coming down the pipeline!
You probably won't be surprised to learn that I have joined the Friends of Bell (FOB) organization. I am currently working as a liason between FOB and Chicago Hearing Society to restart two key programs to benefit the DHH community, that have been dormant since the pandemic.
- Evening ASL classes for families of DHH children - with the added bonus of onsite childcare during class provided by a team of the 7th and 8th grade students at Bell and Interpreters!
- Hiring of a full time ASL elective teacher for the non-DHH students at Bell to learn the language.
There is really good support for these from the both the FOB board and the principal, but funding another teaching position is a big lift - so your support matters! Thanks y'all! <3
