It’s been confirmed: our store will be closing on December 24th, 2021.
We started as just a one-month pop-up in December 2019 and were granted a month-to-month lease after a very successful holiday season. Who would have thought we would end up lasting two years!
However, it’s time to move on from our storefront. While we are sad to be closing, we can’t help but look forward to the next chapter of ArtUs Co’s Artist Resource Center with excitement. And above all, we couldn’t be more thankful for the staff, artists, donors, patrons, and customers who made it all possible.
So, what is this resource center, you ask? As you may know, ArtUs Co is a 501(c)3 arts nonprofit (founded in 2005 as Pump Project). We will continue nonprofit arts programming in our new space—which is also at The Arboretum—where we will be able to fully focus on our Artist Resource Center that will provide art, workshops, classes, gallery openings, etc. and host other great creative events such as comedy shows or poetry slams.
We are also happy to announce that our friends at Ao5 Gallery will be moving into the store, so The Arboretum will now have two art spaces! It was especially nice to hear that another art gallery will be taking over the space with our same values in mind, and we will be exploring potential collaborations together that will enhance arts in this area of Austin. Be sure to swing by and give them a warm welcome to The Arboretum!
As for the store and your favorite artists and vendors? We plan on having a seasonal pop-up shop once or twice a year in this area. We will keep you posted! In the meantime, every dollar we make at the store from here until closing will go towards our 2022 resource center programs.
Once again, we would like to reiterate just how grateful we are for everyone who made this happen—what a journey it’s been. Now, on to the next!
