I am Kewa, here is my story....
“In the summer of 2018, after suffering 2 miscarriages back to back, I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease which is a debilitating autoimmune disease caused by the malfunction in the body's disease-fighting immune system, that results in the over or underproduction of the Thyroid hormone, (Hyperthyroidism or Hypothyroidism). The symptom management options presented to me by doctors were to have my thyroid removed and take radioactive iodine, synthetic hormones, and beta-blockers for the rest of my life.
Typically, I am a very health-oriented person, so these options were not acceptable to me, so I decided to research homeopathic treatment for endocrine diseases. This research sent me on a journey of learning not only about the body and how it works but about myself. I was also connected with an amazing Holistic Endocrine Specialist, Dr. Ezzie, who was instrumental in my healing success.
When I walked into Dr. Ezzie’s office for the first time, I felt the lowest I have felt ever. The illness had me bloated to a whopping 179lbs, at first, my throat was bulging out, and I was constantly in so much pain. I had chronic migraines, dizziness, tremors, palpitations, aching bones, severe pain in my midsection, jaundice, patches on my skin that resemble sunburn and seizures. I was unable to sleep and anytime I did feel sleepy I felt like I was dying, so the fear prevented me from sleeping, even more, I was lucky to get 3 hours of sleep a week! The Graves’ Disease that I was afflicted with is called Hyperthyroidism and one of the symptoms is the speeding up of your metabolism. When I was diagnosed, I was a bloated 179lbs, in less than 3 weeks I was 140lbs and continuing to decline rapidly! Nothing I ate stayed inside my body and I was wasting away.
Graves’ Disease takes approximately 3-5 years to stabilize and can take up to a lifetime to correct. As of March 27th, 2019, I am thankful that I am completely Graves free! Not only am I free from Graves’ Disease, but my energy has improved significantly, my mental clarity is sharp and my entire outlook on life is optimistic, even when challenges present themselves.
Now armed with this newfound energy, I wanted to get back into fitness as I did prior to my illness, which is where I found Burn Boot Camp. Joining this camp has been monumental in the next phase of my healing and fitness journey and I have seen so much success! I have never been in a fitness facility that created such a close community, a family. This reminded me of the support that I had from my family in beating this disease and the reason why I started my foundation to begin with. Having solid support when working toward your goals is imperative and an important part of the process.
Seeing all of the results from the people that are a part of Burn shows me that with the right support you can beat anything. I have always been a health nut but this is my first experience with a boot camp and if I had to say how Burn has been a part of my journey I would say that they are the cherry on the cake for my completion of healing!
Although this was an incredibly difficult journey, I had, and still do, have an amazing support system. I felt compelled to not only share my journey and my doctor with the world but to also be your support system, so that you too, can use foods and fitness to overcome any condition.
