The online auction, raise your paddle, and virtual cooking classes will all be open for bidding through the weekend.  Check out some of the cooking classes being offered to benefit Root and the unique auction items, or virtually Raise your Paddle for Root to help support our work in the year ahead.  Auction items include the opportunity to create your dream dinner working alongside Chef Frank McClelland, guitar or songwriting lessons with Livingston Taylor, and a Root catered dinner!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A heartfelt thank you to our friend and Honorary Chair, Chef Gordon Hamersley, and to our Root Graduates who shared their stories with you.  We are thrilled to honor the Essex County Community Foundation with this year's Root Community Leadership Award in recognition of their efforts in response to the pandemic on behalf of all Essex County residents. 

 

A special thank you to our special guest, Chef Kwame Onwuachi, author of New York Times best-selling “Notes from a Young Black Chef” Chef Kwame visited Root's summer cohort as a "Virtual Guest Chef" in August and shared his inspiring story with our youth.  In partnership with our friends at Copper Dog Books in Beverly, copies of Chef Kwame's book will still be available for purchase through December 12th with proceeds from the sales benefitting Root, and they offer (limited) free local delivery!

Chef Stephanie was only 15 when she began working in the food industry at the Muffin Shop in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Working her way up at top restaurants, including Top of the Hub ,B&G Oysters, Stir and No. 9 Park, she showcased her culinary prowess by competing on Top Chef. After the show, she opened the pop-up Stacked Donuts in Boston. In 2015, Stephanie joined Fairsted Kitchen as the executive chef, crafting a menu that reflects her personal cooking style with French and Italian dishes that have a Middle Eastern spin. After a year at Fairsted, Stephanie took a position at Venetian restaurant SRV in Boston’s South End, where she worked to master the art of making pasta. She has since become a full-time private chef for multiple families, and also caters upscale intimate dinner parties.
