Experience an unforgettable evening of dining and storytelling as we celebrate the rich history of the Market Square Farmers' Market with A Storied Supper.
Join us on June 7 at the picturesque hilltop of the Mabry-Hazen House Museum and savor a delectable meal prepared by renowned local chef Jeffrey Dealejandro of OliBea featuring mouth-watering appetizers and a family-style dinner that showcase the unique flavors of East Tennessee. As you enjoy your meal, immerse yourself in the stories of Market Square's past and the crucial role played by Evelyn Hazen in preserving our beloved market space, as shared by Jack Neely of Knoxville History Project and Patrick Hollis of the Mabry-Hazen House Museum. Learn about the two vendors who have been with the MSFM since the very beginning, some behind-the-scenes memories from Nourish Knoxville CEO Charlotte Tolley and so much more. A special thank you to MSFM vendor Rainbow Roots for providing centerpieces for this event.
This one-time-only evening is the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of the MSFM and indulge in a unique dining experience unlike any other. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to savor delicious food, hear captivating stories, and celebrate the legacy of the Market Square Farmers' Market.
About the Food:
A curated menu from Jeffrey Dealejandro will help tell the story of East Tennessee, Knoxville, and Market Square. Selecting foods and tastes significant to East Tennesseans throughout time, be prepared to learn about how these menu choices reflect present-day flavors that have inspired the marketplace we know today. A special dessert will be provided by our friend Nolan Sherrill of Central Creamery. While the meal will be served family style, there will be plant-based/gluten-free options available.
Market Stall Appetizers:
Appetizers will be served from market-stall-like stations, a nod to what the Market Square looked like in the 1860s. Select from several different tasty treats that will serve as a prelude of the meal to come (and maybe even transport you back in time!).
- Oyster Live Shucking with chili and melon Mignonette
- House Cured 3yr Ham and Spicy Soppressata served with Mother's Daughter Bread Sourdough
- Veg Crudités: pickled and fresh local vegetables served with spreads (vegan)
Supper and Stories:
Served family-style, enjoy a meal with your table-mates and listen to stories told by resident history experts Patrick Hollis and Jack Neely about the origins of the market, what role the Mabry family played in creating the space, and how Nourish Knoxville CEO Charlotte Tolley has maintained the legacy of an open-air market for Knoxvillians.
- Pastrami and Pork & Lamb andouille sausage
- Heirloom Tomato & White Nectarine Salad (vegan)
- Sea Island Peas and Rice (vegan)
