The Bob Soltero Scholarship Golf Tournament was established in 2004 to raise funds for our students. The tournament supports the following scholarships:
The Tony Aguirre Scholarship: supports students pursuing a private high school education that are engaged with the Guadalupe Centers as a program participant or volunteer.
The Gilbert Guerrero Scholarship: supports graduates of Guadalupe Centers High School pursuing a post-secondary education.

WHO WAS BOB SOLTERO Bob was born November 5, 1927 and grew up in the west-side community of Kansas City, MO where he experienced a lot of discrimination and prejudice. At 17, in November of 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. After his discharge in 1948, Bob returned to Kansas City where he married Carmen Tinoco and returned to the restaurant business. Bob served on the Guadalupe Centers’ board of directors for over 10 years. He was a sponsor of both the center’s culinary arts school and Guadalupe Centers High School and volunteered by cooking in many of our fundraisers. Bob had a life-long love of golf, caddying as a young boy, starting to play golf at 15, and spending more than 20 years working at the Swope Park Golf Course.
