Did you know that the average woman spends about $20 on period hygiene products per month, adding up to about $18,000 over her lifetime!?! In 2020, St. Louis University conducted research showing 64% of participants couldn't afford to purchase period hygiene products and 21% said that they faced these issues on a regular basis.
Our cohort of teen girls, aka BRAVE Ambassadors, have spent this past academic year learning and advocating for social and health justice. Thus, for their final project, they have decided to support the financial burdens that under-resourced women experience, specifically related to period hygiene products. We are asking our community to support by donating products, as well as joining us to put care packages together.
Come join us in person for our "I Am BRAVE - The Future is Us" event on Saturday, April 30th, 11am-1pm (CT) at Twin Oaks Library - 1800 S. 5t St!
This will be a family-friendly event to serve, support, and build commUNITY! Lunch is included (RSVP required) and CTAHI mobile vaccination will be available in the parking lot for COVID vaccinations/booster shots.
If you’re able to donate, we are asking for the following products, or you can make a financial contribution:
- Pads (heavy, regular, light, overnight)
- Tampons (heavy, regular, light)
- Panty liners
- Individual moist wipe packets (ie: hand, feminine, facial)
- Individual facial tissue packets (ie: pocket tissue packs)
*Even if you are not able to attend the 4/30 event, all donations are welcomed and needed!*
Donation drop-off containers will be located at SLAB BBQ - North Austin (9012 Research Blvd.), SLAB BBQ - Cedar Park (905 E. Whitestone Blvd in Cedar Park), the Twin Oaks Library (1800 S 5th St), and Hearth & Soul (2727 Exposition Blvd) from Saturday, April 16th to Friday, April 29th (noon). Please fill out the donation drop off form for our records or you can offer a monetary contribution.
We will provide one SLAB BBQ sandwich/wrap for each RSVP'ed person at this event. Please be sure that each person attending this event registers for a ticket--indicating their meal preference (beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian).
