Ms. McCarthy-Nielsen and Ms. Everett have been scheming to create a new music block opportunity for the 5th grade, with ukuleles! The ukulele is a wonderful instrument for students beginning to work with strummed instruments. Additionally, the smaller profile makes it a comfortable fit for grade-schoolers.
The ukulele is a fitting companion for the North American geography morning lesson curriculum and the music composition curriculum. A heartfelt instrument, the ukulele will serve as a springboard for interest in strummed instruments moving into middle school and be a harmonizing, supportive measure to classes in their adolescent years.
The incredible enthusiasm for instrumental music makes the Class of 2028 the perfect class to pioneer the ukulele program! Skillful with technique, the current fifth grade will be ready for an additional musical challenge as they begin to reach beyond their abilities with the Choroi flute.
We are asking that our current 5th grade families—who are able to do so without financial stress—to contribute to the purchase of the instruments. The cost of one instrument and case is $50. If your family is able to give a bit more to help cover the cost for others, it will ensure that we have enough to go around!
This year’s 5th grade will use the instruments (and part of 6th as well), and then they will be passed along to subsequent 5th grades for their use. It is a wonderful way to benefit this class, and to pay it forward for the younger grades, year after year!
In appreciation of the entire class, we will make a special announcement and FB post about this gift that will keep on giving. Thank you!
