The importance of data and visualization in the delivery of healthcare services was pioneered by the first nurse statistician and informatician, Florence Nightingale. More recently, the enactment of the ARRA stimulus bill and the HITECH Act set the course for the widespread implementation of electronic health records (EHRs). The use of EHRs has resulted in the massive capture and storage of health data through the direct documentation by registered nurses, doctors, and health clinicians as well as through the interface of medical devices. Using data analytic methods and visualization software, clinicians and healthcare leaders can systematically improve quality, safety, and efficiency in the delivery of healthcare services.
This workshop will engage the registered nurse in learning about the power of data. Attendees will learn from health informaticians and leaders that are using health data to transform patient care.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Examine the importance of complete and accurate documentation in the EHR by the nurse
2. Discuss data analytic methods and visualization software
3. Learn from health informaticians and leaders that are using data to improve patient care
