About TreeFolks:
TreeFolks is Austin’s only urban forestry nonprofit and has been planting trees and teaching residents about tree stewardship for over 33 years. Founded in 1989 by a small but passionate group of neighbors, TreeFolks began by planting a handful of trees in yards and community spaces before expanding operations throughout Central Texas and emerging as a reforestation leader. TreeFolks has planted over 3 million trees, distributed over 165,000 free trees to residents, and engaged over 21,000 volunteers.
October marks the beginning of tree planting season in Central Texas, and we’re proud to say that our programs are growing in capacity and impact. This season, TreeFolks’ Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation Program will plant 60,000 trees in degraded floodplain lands, reforesting 75 acres around Central Texas. Our CommuniTrees program will reforest 12 acres of riparian land in public spaces around Austin (that’s another 14,500 saplings!) and plant 200 more mature trees at schools, parks, and community sites. Our NeighborWoods program will give over 6,000 free trees to Austin residents to bring more shade to neighborhoods, and together with our volunteers, we will collect thousands of seeds to begin growing TreeFolks’ own nursery.
It’s an exciting time to be part of TreeFolks, and we want you to join us at RootBall and be part of the movement to keep Austin shady!
