24x24" This mirror started out in the pile of donated items in the teacher’s lounge of Wiles Elementary. It began its new life’s purpose in Mrs. Lancer’s Art room. Wiles Art Club kids painted the frame with bright colors then finished it with metallic overlay. The tiles were created from mat boards secured by Tools for Schools, that were then used as project paint pallets for numerous classes which gave them a variety of painted color. The mat boards were cut into asymmetrical tiles and 5th grade artists collaborated by filling the frame with the tiles. The frame was completed with clear acrylic gloss to bring out the vibrancy of color and texture.

Mirror 10x10” total size I love to tell a story using found objects or relics from a slower time. Previously abandoned, these items are infused with new life in the art making process and act as a reminder of that history. Many times viewers create their own story while experiencing the artwork. It's the surprise of the unexpected that makes me want to continue to create these pieces.

Frame 16", Mirror 6"; colored modeling paste on Metal frame. While recovering from shoulder surgery in 2014, I was looking for something to do. I discovered the artist Bob Ross on YouTube and he truly inspired me. I haven’t put my paint brush down since. Colors are expressions of life. I want to bring moments of peace and happiness to everyone who enjoys my paintings. By focusing on the vibrant color and natural vistas, my goal is for my art to provide an escape into nature to forget about life’s problems.

Cigar box 8x8" I am an artist that is in the 10th grade at Eastside High-school. I enjoy many art forms such as painting, drawing, and sketching. I painted this cigar box and turned an ordinary item into a decorative art piece. The title of the art piece is “Sunset by the Window”. It shows a window displaying a sunset with bright colors the contrast the monochrome tone of the cigar box. It also shows the silhouette palm trees and foliage that obstructs the view slightly. The window can be interpreted as a gap in the ignorance that today’s society faces. The sunset shows the beauty in truth and how it can shine in through the gaps of ignorance. The palm trees represent bias media organizations and political officials that are vectors of ignorance and hate that try to block the truth or light from reaching society.

H= 14.5”, W= 26.5”, D= 12”. cigar box, 1/8” plywood, oil enamel paint. I have enjoyed the 13 years of creating and donating for Musical Chairs. It gives me an opportunity, as an artist, to be whimsical. I play around with left-over materials or explore the dynamics of new materials like table top epoxy. This ‘Zany Jewelry Box’ was an opportunity to hone my scroll saw skills and to create something that is fun and functional. Simultaneously I get to support the arts in elementary schools which I believe is vitally important for kids.
