When we started in 2018, we set out to do something different that hadn't been done in our educational circles before. We wanted to have a child focused model that encouraged students to drive their own learning so that they would be encouraged to become life-long learners. We sought to do this through collaborative, open-ended project-based learning accompanied with a self-paced aspect of learning for math and literacy. Because we were seeking to prove this concept we sought out a temporary, smaller space that we could afford and eventually grow out of it. Throughout the first school year we gained students and grew in both number and understanding of how to better serve these students that were on this learning journey. Through the next two school years our student body continued to grow, but our 2000 sq. ft. building (with only one bathroom) did not. Now that we are entering our fourth academic year in 2021-22, the word has gotten out about this special and empowering school and we are looking at an enrollment of 60+ students for next year.
We have always valued brain based science and educational practices that point out how important natural surroundings are for emerging learners. We have found the perfect setting that will help our students to growth in their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing as they continue on at Veritas Academy. Located just outside of the Wylie city limits, a scenic 10.7 acre piece of farmland has come to our attention and would provide our students a place to find serenity amid a busy world. This property will serve our current students and generations of students to come.
In order to accomplish all of this we need your help. We are working to secure a loan with our church body, but we need to raise $300,000 by June 1st for the downpayment. We need to raise at least $100,000 in immediate funds by this date, and the remainder in pledges to be paid as installments over the next three years.
