Thank you to those of you who participated in the Building on OUR Future Virtual Gala.

In order to watch the video from the gala, you can click here.

Unfortunately, the Friends of the Library did not reach our goal of raising $50,000 on the night of the gala. If you would like to help the library reach its goal please visit the donation link here.

As the Library Renewed Our Story in 2020, new rooms and areas were created leaving opportunity for new local families, businesses, nonprofits, and membership organizations to purchase naming rights.

Donations benefit the capital campaign fund, which can be spent to improve the library building and premises. In the next year, the library will need half of its roof replaced and a new parking lot. In the post COVID-19 climate, increasing the property tax levy to cover those expenses is not an option.

A half roof replacement and a new parking lot will cost the library over $300,000 each to complete.

The Friends of the Library is a 501©3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping advance the cause of the Library to benefit engaging programs and community betterment. The Friends have partnered with the Library on this virtual gala to take in any donations made so that they may be tax deductible.

The Library thanks the generous sponsors of this event for donating to the silent auction and raffle.

$4,000 Sponsor the Summer Reading Challenge

Help us combat summer slide for local children and families in Orland Park by sponsoring the Summer Reading Challenge in 2021.

The benefits of summer reading are clear. National research from Dominican University finds that students who participate in public library summer reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year than those who did not participate.

Parents of children enrolled in the public library summer reading program reported that their children spent more time reading over the summer, read more books, were well prepared for school in the fall, and read more confidently.

Young people experience learning losses when they don’t engage in educational activities during the summer. Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer. Libraries are part of the solution.

To succeed in school and life, children and young adults need ongoing opportunities to learn and practice essential skills. Summer Reading Club reminds kids that reading is for fun—as well as for learning.

There’s so much to see, so much to do at your library! There’s no better place. In fact, more than 82 million children attend library programs every year.

Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.

The amount of time children spend reading outside of school is linked to gains in reading achievement. Numerous studies show that access to books and magazines is directly related to higher reading achievement.

Sponsor this reading incentive program, and the library will thank you or your business in conjunction with all marketing and public information materials related to the Summer Reading Challenge.

$4,000 Sponsor the Winter Reading Program

Blizzard of Books, our winter reading program, is especially popular with seniors.

Senior Citizens who read more often enjoy much more than a good story. Studies show the benefits of reading for older adults. Reading helps seniors reduce stress and enhance sleep to improving memory circuits, sharpen decision-making, and possibly even delaying the onset of dementia.

More studies still need to be done, but we know that reading keeps you sharp.

Sponsor this reading incentive program, and the library will thank you in conjunction with all marketing and public information materials related to the Winter Reading Program.
